BrainWave Plus does contain a rather varied formula, but many of the extracts are commonly found in many formulas based on Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. Acetyl L Carnitine is often advertised as being a life extension extract that can help positively affect various areas of health, including cardiovascular health; Asian Ginseng is used to augment vitality; and Ashwagandha is a tonic herb that increases overall health and energy.
Ginkgo and Bacopa are often found together in holistic memory enhancers, due to their purported abilities to augment cognitive function. However, neither one has done particularly well in recent research studies. Bacopa has actually done well in rat base studies, but the same positive results have not extended to human studies. Also, Ginkgo has a reputation for being a heavy weight memory enhancer, but in recent studies its abilities were only in alignment with placebos.
We were actually glad to see that Phosphatidylserine and Vinpocetine are used in this formula, because they have shown some really exceptional results in research studies. Phosphatidylserine has been shown to increase mental acuity by augmenting the brain’s ability to receive and send nerve impulses more effectively, while also augmenting the abilities of neurotransmitters. Vinpocetine increases cerebral blood flow, which can increase the bio availability of vital nutrients, as well as increase the delivery of blood and oxygen to the brain, all of which conspire to increase brain function. Sometimes what is not in a formula like BrainWave Plus is just as important as what is. For instance, the fact that B Vitamins, like Folic Acid, Vitamins B6 and B12, are not used in its formula means that BrainWave Plus cannot help users balance their levels of homocysteine. This may not seem important, but it actually is, because in depth studies conducted over an 8 year period indicate that high levels of homocysteine are a precursor for dementia related illnesses, like Alzheimer’s. It was also shown that certain B Vitamins can help keep these levels in the normal range and protect against dementia in some cases.

BrainWave Plus may well help some user’s increase their cognitive function due to the fact that it contains Phosphatidylserine and Vinpocetine, and it may help increase energy due to its inclusion of so many tonic herbs. However, it does lack certain features that would have made it a complete cognitive enhancer.
As noted above, BrainWave Plus does not contain any elements that can help balance homocysteine levels, and the inclusion of B Vitamins, like Folic Acid, Vitamins B6 and B12 would have been a quick and easy solution to this issue. It also does not contain Alpha GPC, which can naturally increase Choline levels to augment both short and long term memory, while also helping correct memory loss.
When people decide to buy a holistic product to increase their cognitive health they usually want a product that offers us a total solution, and based on the formula used in BrainWave Plus, it is doubtful that it can fill this bill. Luckily, there are a few results driven products on the market that contain a full array of proven cognitive and memory enhancers to help users get and keep their brain health on track. So those consumers who are not satisfied with BrainWave Plus’ halfhearted formula may want to continue their search to find a more complete product.
