Memory loss is a scary issue, and it is one that most people don’t want to think about, but sometimes it sneaks up on you. For instance, you may start to forget small things, like numbers and names. Memory loss can happen for lots of reasons, not just age. Things like stress, nutrition, lack of exercise and sleeplessness can all play a role in reduced cognitive function. However, holistic supplements have been shown to be able to increase brain health regardless of the reason, so it’s no surprise that this segment of the market has really taken off.
Shaklee Memory Optimizer was crafted by Shaklee, a developer of a variety of holistic supplements that range form nutritional support to anti aging formulas. While their website is up and running, it does not provide information on Shaklee Memory Optimizer, which is concerning. It is still available on some auction based websites from time to time, but Shaklee Memory Optimizer is very hard to find on retail sites.

The fact that the full formula for Shaklee Memory Optimizer is not disclosed is troubling to say the least. But we do know that it contains Bacopa, an extract that is found in many cognitive enhancers, and it is imbued with some extreme brain boosting abilities. This extract is an aquatic plant, somewhat similar to seaweed, and it has been found to be a high performance antioxidant. While antioxidants are healthful and may boost immune health and ease inflammation, they have not been found to be memory enhancers as suggested by the company. In fact, in a recent study conducted on both middle age and older adults, Bacopa showed only very minor results in some users and no results in others. Furthermore, the study used higher dosages of Bacopa than those found in over the counter products, like this one.

The fact that Shaklee Memory Optimizer has gone missing from its home site, and the fact that it is only available on auction sites was not really surprising since it seems to rely so heavily upon Bacopa to boost brain health. There are actually other much more effective and research proven choices available to consumers. For instance, Vinpocetine has been shown to increase brain function by augmenting cerebral blood flow, which is important because some cognitive failure is liked to poor circulation. Alpha GPC is also often found in the higher performing products to increase Choline levels, which has been shown to be integral in optimizing both short and long term memory. One of the more interesting aspects of Alpha GPC is that it was also shown in clinical studies to be able to help reverse memory damage in some instances. Thus, it may be best to look for products that contain such proven ingredients in their formulas.

Shaklee Memory Optimizer is hard to find these days, and we suspect it was removed from the market. We actually reviewed some consumer rating sites to see what former users had to say about its overall effectiveness, and we found that there was a high level of customer disappointment associated with this product, which may be why it has gone missing. Former users often suggested that their peers take a pass on this product, and instead look for formulas that use proven smart nutrients like Alpha GPC, Phosphatidylserine and Vinpocetine. Given what we know about this product and its contained ingredients, we have to recommend the same, as Shaklee Memory Optimizer just doesn’t appear to be a good option.
